The Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive
The impending threat of the THMPD (Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive) comes fully into force at the end of April. We, like many other manufacturers and suppliers of herbal products in the UK, believed that it would be the end to all herbal products, but this has proved not to be the case. Many popular plant based products can actually continue to be sold as before, which is great news!
Inevitably, there’ll be a few casualties along the way, and we’ll be seeing the loss of some of our popular products such as St. Johns Wort, Echinacea, Milk Thistle and Valerian for the time being. Other effected products are Agnus Castus, Bilberry with Eyebright, Black Cohosh, Boswellia, Cats Claw, Dong Quai, Feverfew, Goldenseal, Magnolia, Rhodiola Complex, Saw Palmetto + Zinc, Tribulus Plus and Wild Yam. Unfortunately, other suppliers will be seeing similar losses from their ranges, too.
We’re working hard with the MHRA (Medicines and Health products Regulatory Agency) to get as many as possible added back into our standard range, but if we can’t then to obtain a registered product to be able to offer you an alternative.
So, as you can see, not the total loss that was once predicted! If this list includes your favourite supplement then now’s the perfect time to stock up, before the end of April. Of course, you can continue to use the products after the deadline, right up until expiry!
