Digestive enzymes help to break down food in the digestive tract, starting in the mouth as food is eaten and continuing through the stomach and intestines.

The stomach produces three main types of enzyme. These are generalised and collectively called: Lipase, for fat digestion; protease, for protein digestion; amylase, for carbohydrate digestion.

Once in the stomach these enzymes work together with stomach acids to make sure that we get the most out of the food we eat and that the nutrients are absorbed properly.

Sometimes one or more of these components is missing or reduced, this is where the products in this section come into their own!
